Discussion: “A new witch hunt: Franco regime repression against Spanish midwives.” Discussion in Spanish. By Dr. Lola Ruíz Berdún. Organized by: Meridià Zero. The Franco regime’s repression against Spanish midwives was an authentic "witch hunt" that took place during the Spanish Civil war and during the Post-war period. The midwives with professional expertise about sexual and reproductive health care as well as employment autonomy had a direct confrontation with the model of the submissive women that was promoted by the Franco regime. El eco de los pasos

Zone: Casa del Cable
The Group exhibition of «El eco de los pasos» (“The echo of footsteps”) consists of a selection of photographs about the shoe; this object with an insignificant appearance that is full of meaning. From the veiled intimacy of a middle-class interior design to the violence of the battlefield, the shoe reveals its symbolic and documentary capacity to us. Eroticism and fetishism of the feminine high heel, old slippers like worn-out lives, horses and monkeys that remind us of our animal exile, orthopedic prosthesis that transform us into cyborgs, etc. Inhabited or uninhabited, exposed or abandoned, footwear is an intimate part of our personal and social identity, which even transforms us into historical subjects. The character of the footsteps of each of these 57 photographs in this exhibition explore over seventy years and we contemplate them like echoes full of multiple histories. Echoes that interrogate us about our own footsteps in today’s time in which the ground that we walk on has lost its firmness.
