Xàbia has a mild climate during the entire year. Thanks to the Montgó mountain barrier, the town is protected from the continental winter cold fronts and benefits from the sea winds and westerly breezes which provide relief from the summer heat.
Xàbia’s climate is considered as the World’s second best microclimate. The average annual temperature is 18º, itemized per month as follows: January:11º, February: 11º, March:14º, April: 16º, May: 19º, June:23º, July: 26º, August: 27º, September: 23º, October: 19º, November: 15º and December: 13º.
Green is the colour which predominates in the landscape; despite the fact that rainfall is not frequent, Xàbia has plentiful subterranean waters.
Consequently, it is believed that potential source of its name comes from the Arab word “Xábiga”, which meant "well (pozo) or water tank (aljibe)", due to the plentiful supply of the elements which occupied this place.
The rainfall follows the Mediterranean precipitation pattern, which means very intense storms in a short time period primarily concentrated in the months of September, October and November. These typical Mediterranean storms are locally known as “gota fria” (Cold Drop).
