David Ferrer was born in Xàbia on 2nd of April 1982. David Ferrer, affectionately known as “Ferru”, has shown his tenacity and his fighting spirit since he was a child. At the age of eight, he began to play tennis with his father and older brother, Javier, who became a professional player (He won the Spanish Children Championship). He is currently a coach at the Xàbia Tennis Club.
He has been ranked in the Top 20 during the last eight seasons, and finished four seasons ranked among the top ten players. He is currently ranked 3rd in the ATP classification. He is considered to be one of the best receivers of the current ATP circuit.
He has one Masters 1000 title in the 2012 Paris Masters Tournament, seven titles in ATP 500 tournaments and twelve titles in ATP 250 tournaments. He was also finalist in the 2007 Masters Tournament and also finalist in four championship matches in the Masters Series Championships; 2010 Rome Masters, 2011 Monte Carlo Masters, 2011 Shanghai Masters and the 2013 Miami Masters tournaments.
Beyond the court, his favourite sports include football and basketball and he is a fan of Valencia CF. David enjoys a good book under his arm and keeps all his books. He is one of the most well-liked players in the ATP circuit due to his character.
David, a small giant, belongs to a world of celebrities but he knows that it is an unreal universe and he has not forgotten his roots. I received a good education from my parents: they taught me hard work, perseverance and humility. They served as a good example for me. I will never forget the city of Xàbia where I grow up and met all my friends.
