Marcel Giró and Palmira Puig were exiled in Brazil after the Spanish Civil War and they lived in São Paulo during three decades. They were both outstanding celebrities in the Photography Club: “Foto Cine Clube Bandeirante (FCCB)”, the core of the so-called photography school: “Escuela Paulista”, one of the most relevant manifestations of photographic modernism in Brazil between 1940 and 1960, a current which was known as “subjectivist photography” in Europe.
They founded their photography study, “Estudio Giró”, in this city which became one of the main references for advertising photography in the country.
